Early Life and Career
LaMelo Ball was born to parents LaVar Ball and Tina Ball on 22 August 2001 at Chino Hills, California. He got his initial coaching from his father LaVar Ball when he was four years old. He has two older brothers, Lonzo and LiAngelo with whom he trained. LaMelo played for several amateur clubs in his early days at the request of his father, as well as for his family’s own Big Ballers AAU. He studied at Chino Hills High School, California, and started playing basketball in full swing under Coach Steve Baik. LaMelo often played against guys that were much elder to him, yet he proved his determination by scoring considerably on numerous occasions. He was selected for the school team and on the 16th of June 2015, played against John Muir High School. He impressed his mentors and the cheering crowd by scoring 27 points in his debut. In his next match, scheduled on 27 June, LaMelo scored a steady 20 points against Centennial High School. That same year in November, he scored another 20 points against San Bernardino High School.
His talent soon started drawing the attention of universities that wanted to hire him in the future. UCLA sought and finalized a verbal commitment from LaMelo Ball to play for them in the future. LaMelo led his team by scoring 26 points to clinch victory over Sierra Canyon School. After winning the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Open Division championship in March of 2016, that same month, the Chino Hills team went on to become the No.1 ranked team in the US and ultimately qualified for the state championship.In the final of the 2016 CIF State Boys Basketball Championship against De La Salle High School, LaMelo scored 14 points to steer his team to victory in a 70-50 finish.LaMelo was pronounced Freshman of the Year by MaxPreps.com and found his place in the MaxPreps Boys’ Basketball Freshman All-American First Team.
By the latter half of 2016, LaMelo maintained an average of 30 points per game.On February 2017, LaMelo scored 92 points to propel his team to another overwhelming victory over Los Osos High School.
LaMelo is currently playing for the team Charlotte Hornets of the NBA. He was selected during the 2020 NBA draft.
