Shadowhunters is a supernatural drama TV series based out of America. Created by Ed Decter and based on Cassandra Clare’s book series, The Mortal Instruments. It debuted on Freeform in North America on January 12, 2016. The show was primarily shot in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
It is the sequel to the film The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. Like the series, it was produced by Constantin Film and served as a reboot. Shadowhunters’ first season received mixed reviews from critics. The pilot episode drew the most viewers for Freeform in more than two years. Shadowhunters was nominated for several awards and won one GLAAD Award, six Teen Choice Awards, and five People’s Choice Awards.
Shadowhunters Season 4 Release Date
Shadowhunters season 4 will not air on Freeform after negotiations with Netflix, the series’ significant financial partner, failed to renew its commitment to finance the series. Netflix’s partnership with Freeform allows the streaming service to release new episodes internationally the day after they air in the United States. Constantine Film, the series’ leading production company, could not reach an agreement with the parent network, Freeform, for more money.
Over a few months, Constantin Film tried to find other sources of funding but was unable to find another partner. They kept looking until the company announced in August 2018 that this iteration of The Mortal Instruments would not be able to continue.
“Unfortunately for all involved, Shadowhunters must come to an end,” a snippet reads. While we are working on new ways and incarnations to bring the Shadow World to fans worldwide, we regret to inform you that, despite the best efforts of all parties involved, this version of Shadowhunters will not be able to continue.”

Plot
The third season finale of Shadowhunters left the door open for more stories. Jonathan and Clary’s final showdown reflects their mysterious and complicated journey. Clary understood Jonathan’s journey, but she also knew that putting an end to his reign of terror was the sole way to save her true family. Jonathan saw those alliances as sufficient justification for his actions to win Clary over to his side.
It was time to celebrate Jonathan’s departure from the world. A fourth season of the show would pave the way for Clary’s re-entry into the world once she regains her memory. The fourth season of Shadowhunters would be ideal for Clary’s reintroduction to the world after she regains her memory.
