Shookus began her career in television as an executive assistant in 2002 and was promoted to producer in 2012. She oversaw the talent division at “SNL,” scheduling hosts and musical guests and hiring new talent.

Lindsay Shookus has left her long-standing position as a producer on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.” The successful producer previously dated Ben Affleck after meeting on the show and left after turning down a new role.

The six-time Emmy Award winner, 42, announced her departure from the show on Instagram on Friday. “After 20 seasons at SNL (and 415 live shows – I counted! ), I’ve decided to trade in the wild late nightlife and leave the show,” she wrote in a lengthy caption to a photo of herself on set.

Shookus said, “I started in 2002 as a baby from Buffalo, NY, knowing nothing about the business except that I desperately wanted to be a part of it. I found my home at SNL, where I’ve spent the last two decades making incredible friendships and memories with some truly brilliant and talented people.”

Shookus went on to say that she met Kevin Miller, her ex-husband and a former “SNL” producer, through her work on the show, according to Fox News. Maddie, their daughter, was born.

“What better gift could I have received from my time on the show than my sweet, funny girl who makes every day brighter?” Shookus wrote. Shookus said she was looking forward to her upcoming move and wanted to spend more time with Maddie. She said she would continue to work with her SNL Diversity Scholarship, which she founded in 2020 and Women Work F#cking Hard organization.

The veteran TV host also thanked her coworkers and “SNL” creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels.

“I will be eternally grateful to Lorne for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Thank you so much for your support, freedom and encouragement to bring my voice to this legendary stage,” she said, adding, “thank you to everyone who pushed, supported, taught, listened, valued, and encouraged me.” She concluded by saying she doesn’t “exactly know what else the future holds for me, but she is headed somewhere good.”

Shookus declined a job offer from the NBC sketch comedy show, which is currently undergoing a makeover in preparation for its upcoming 48th season.

Lindsay has been a producer since 2012 and has been with the show for 20 years. According to a source, She was offered another job on the show, but she decided to move on.

Relationship with Ben Affleck

Shookus dated Ben Affleck, and the two got to know each other when the “Argo” actor hosted “SNL” for the fifth time in 2015. 

After going public with their relationship in 2017, just before the actor checked into treatment, Affleck and Shookus split in 2018. Despite reuniting at the beginning of 2019, they split up in April.

Personal Life

Shookus met TV producer Kevin Miller in 2002, and the couple married in 2010. Madeline, their daughter, was born in early 2013. The couple divorced in 2014 after splitting up in 2014.  

Shookus supported Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign and served on the Emily’s List Creative Council.
