LONDON (AP) — The AP reports that London is the capital of the United Kingdom and that Google’s Russian unit plans to file for bankruptcy because it can’t pay its employees and suppliers.
Reports from Russian official media stated Wednesday that a Google LLC Russian subsidiary had notified a national registry of its intention to declare bankruptcy, Fedresurs.
The Russian authorities’ seizure of Google Russia’s bank account “has made it unsustainable for our Russia office to function, including employing and paying Russia-based workers, paying suppliers and vendors, and meeting other financial commitments,” the company stated in a press release.
Google has announced that it will continue to offer its free services in Russia, including Search, YouTube, Gmail, Maps, the Android operating system, and the Google Play app store, despite its prior decision to halt operations in the country.
