Since the debut of the animated series Final Space by Olan Rogers and David Sacks on TBS in 2018, it has provided ample laughs and suspense throughout its two completed seasons, with the second one switching platforms to Adult Swim, Cartoon Network’s night-shift channel. With Season 3 over, fans are already hyped up for what might be next for the series, including the fates of our heroes Gary Goodspeed and Mooncake (both voiced by Olan Rogers himself) and the mystery of the titular Final Space.
The series has assimilated a passionate and loyal fanbase, in part thanks to its excellent animation and blend of profound moments mixed in with some comedy, as well as a genuinely brilliant voice cast including the talents of Tom Kenny, David Tennant, Conan O’Brien, Ron Perlman, and more.
Although we still don’t know a lot about what the future of Final Space holds, here is everything that we do know about Season 4 of “Final Space,” including any info or educated guesses we have about its release date, plot, and cast.
Is Final Space Season 4 Cancelled?
To everybody’s disappointment, the creator of “Final Space,” Olan Rogers, officially confirmed that this show had been canceled and therefore Season 3 would be the final season (Source: Collider). That’s upsetting news, and there really isn’t any other way to put it — but given the endless potential for revival in the age of streaming, we can only hope for a world in which Season 4 of Final Space might happen.
After finishing up the airing of the first season’s finale, the showrunners immediately got confirmation of season 2 the very same day. They only had to wait a week after the season 2 finale to obtain authorization for season 3. If, by any miracle, someone does step in to revive “Final Space” for a season 4, we’ll most probably have to wait about a year before we see any new episodes.
Potential Cast of Final Space Season 4
We don’t have an official cast list when we don’t have confirmation of season 4 yet. Still, once again, we can make some educated guesses based on the information we have.
As the series dabbles with multiple timelines, not even death is a final confirmation that we won’t be able to see any specific character again, so whatever happens in Season 3, be ready for anything and anyone to make a return for Season 4.
However, we can safely assume that the protagonist of the series, Gary Goodspeed would make a comeback with Olan Rogers in the lead role, as well as voicing several supporting characters. Other mainstays of the series we’ve heard voice multiple characters include Fred Armisen (Eduardo, KVN), Tika Sumpter (Quinn Ergon, Nightfall), Tom Kenny (HUE, SAMES), and Steven Yeun (Little Cato, Mr. Graven) voicing a combined total of 48 characters.
As for other cast members we hope will reprise their roles, there is Ashly Burch, playing the role of Ash Graven, Ron Funches as Fox, Claudia Black voicing Sheryl Goodspeed, Vanessa Marshall as Invictus, and, of course, David Tennant voicing the villainous Lord Commander.
Potential Plot of Season 4?
Season 3 propped itself into the darker themes of the show, with the recurring theme being “survival,” as its characters often find themselves stuck within Final Space itself. As we know that most of the characters survived the last season, we expect the fourth installment to play off these themes with wiser characters, using the knowledge they now have gained of Final Space and the universe to exact revenge on any fallen heroes and go after Invictus.
The Season 3 finale left ample room for the story to continue in several possible directions. If another network does save the series, the team will have to pick up where season 3 left off for the sake of continuity. If that doesn’t happen? Well then, we’re stuck with a mostly unsatisfying ending.
