Fans of the open-world RPG will fondly remember Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2. The original was released in 2004 as an action role-playing hack and slash game for the PlayStation 2 and the Xbox. Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2 was the sequel to the 2001 game Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance. Both of these games were spin-offs from the main Baldur’s Gate series.
These games did well in the gaming community. However, they always felt they were leaning too much towards the Diablo series. The hack and slash genre was not that booming at that time, but fans could spot from a mile away the inspiration drawn from the Diablo games.
Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2 Remastered
The second series of this game, Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2, is being remastered, owing to its success in the previous years. Many other games, like Activision’s classic Call of Duty: Modern warfare, have been remastered in prior years. Remastering an already successful game with much better graphics and audio quality is always a win-win situation. Fans feel the nostalgia for the game and love the new graphics and mechanics of the game they loved when they were younger.
The remaster smooths out the jagged edges of the original Dark Alliance 2. However, we are not expecting miracles to happen with that. It is the same game you are nostalgic about. It just looks super crispy.
The remaster has arrived at an exciting time in the hack and slash genre, right between Diablo 3 and 4. The price of the remaster at launch is around $30.
Review of Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2 Remastered
Mixed reviews are coming in for the remaster. There have been reports of objects not rendering correctly. Another complaint that is coming in is the same pre-rendered CGI that was in the original, and even the character selection looks like a jumbled mess. Another complaint is that the quests get dragged way too far compared to the original.
Now to the pros of the remastered game, the graphics are phenomenal. The textures, resolution, audio quality and overall ambience of the game are excellent.
The game is not overall a significant improvement on the original, except for the visual aspect. Xboxera has rated Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2 Remastered as 4/10.
